Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)

Luděk NECHVÁTAL
Held in L’Aquila from June to July 2025

Dear colleagues,

Toghether with Federica Di Michele (INGV) and Donato Pera (Univaq), we are the organizers of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) that will be held in L’Aquila from June to July 2025.

I’m an associate professors here in L’Aquila, active in the field of mathematical modelling, most remarkably opinion formation, traffic and pedestrian flows.

Federica di Michele is a researcher at INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia), she is active in artificial intelligence, machine learning and earthquake dynamics modelling.

Donato Pera is a research fellow in my group here in L’Aquila and he is active in high performance computing, earthquake dynamics modelling and reaction diffusion equations.

The program will revolve around applied mathematics viewed as an interdisciplinary area at the interface with engineering, physics, geology, biology and social sciences with this main subject :

Modelling Natural Disasters and Social-Behavioural Phenomena (MNDSBP) based on the study of stochastic and elastodynamics equations for earthquake dynamics , mathematical models for natural disasters (fire, landslides, climate changes etc.) and on the study of reaction-diffusion-aggregation equations and conservation laws.

Suitable Artificial Intelligence and High Performance Computing techniques will be introduced in the BIP. The event will be held at the University of L’Aquila.

The program will be composed by an online preparatory modulus (15 hours period 23-27 June 2025 to be fixed) and by an in presence week hosted by the D.I.S.I.M. (Department of Information Engineering, Computer Sciences and Mathematics) of the University of L'Aquila in the period 30 June 2025 - 4 July  2025.

The deadline for registration on the website will be 30 April 2025.

All the students who wish to join the DISIM 2025  MNDSBP-BIP must be currently enrolled at a MSc or PhD course in one of the following disciplines: mathematics, applied mathematics, physics and geophysics, engineering, geology or similar subjects.

Participation of students coming from Erasmus partner institutions can be supported by the (short term) Erasmus agreement. Participation in the MNDSBP-BIP  entitles to the recognition of at least 3 ECTS.
Please contact us at (uri@strutture.univaq.it
) for further information about the student recruitment process.

Selected students should also use the following on-line form:

Master and PhD students are welcome and can be covered by your university through the new Erasmus short mobility scholarship. Researchers and Professors can join as well, covered by your university through Erasmus Staff or Teaching Mobility scholarship. Availability of funds for this depends on your institution.

Student participants will receive a transcript of the records from the University of L’Aquila at the end of the programme to certify the awarding of 3 ECTS credits.
